More than a month after a group of workers initially came forward to say that they had not been paid by Empire Construction (a subcontractor for Callahan, Inc at Belclare, a mixed-use project in Wellesley), worker Julio Lima is still owed more than $3,000.
Empire Construction, owned by William Ashmore, initially declared its intent to pay a lesser amount, but refused to acknowledge the full sum owed to the worker, and has since stated that it will not pay anything.
Last month, dozens of workers joined Mr. Lima in solidarity, protesting Empire Construction and Callahan Inc. They were joined by members of the MetroWest Workcer Center, the New England Regional Council of Carpenters, and other members of the community. The protests have continued throughout October and November, as Mr. Lima remains unpaid.
